From mythtvnz@lists.linuxnut.co.nz Mon Sep 3 04:31:57 2007 From: mythtvnz@lists.linuxnut.co.nz (Hadley Rich) Date: Mon, 3 Sep 2007 15:31:57 +1200 Subject: [mythtvnz] [semi-OT] LCD TVs with DPMS Message-ID: <200709031531.57797.hads@nice.net.nz> Hey list, We're looking to buy a new LCD TV for our joint and I'd prefer one that supports DPMS. We've got a little Panasonic Viera LCD in another room which doesn't do DPMS and it annoys me. It seems DPMS is more common in plasma TVs than LCD. We're looking at 40-42" panels and I've currently been leaning towards the Toshiba and Sharp models but am welcome to input from others if it's not too OT. It will of course be running a MythTV frontend :) Unfortunately DPMS isn't usually listed as a spec on any of the web pages or brochures and none of the sales people I've encountered know what it is. Does anyone have any clues as what brands/models tend to support DPMS or not? Short of taking my laptop in to the shop and doing a `xset dpms force off` to test each set out (which I will do if it comes down to it). So we need to make sure our systems know about the new daylight savings regime later this month, right?merge sky based data with sport extra file, import results with
mythfilldatabase, then reschedule.
...
mythfilldatabase --no-delete --file 2 -1 /tmp/listings-latest_beta.xml
mythbackend --resched

Do you know if that resched is definitely necessary? I always thought that mythfilldatabase triggered a resched anyway, but I've never been sure. Would be good to know...

I have 1 Dish and have SKY/DVB Card and at the =
moment I have
to keep swapping the cables over. So what I want is a splitter (ie =
1
in/multiple out). There are quite a few on trademe and I was wondering =
which
one do I need?

Or can someone supply me a splitter with 2 short =
cables (for
out -> receivers) (off-list)
Also I am looking for a bigger system (Larger =
Antenna with
mover etc to get multiple channels if someone can quote me off list for
hardware/install).
And thirdly.. I am looking into getting as many =
channels as
possible, but running them at the same time (feeding them into multiple
receivers) instead of having to wait for the mover to move it to =
see the
other channels and loosing the channel I want just tuned to. Any =
ideas?
(7? Ku Satellites with H+V means 2 * Toroidal Dishes with 7 LNB’s =
each?)
(into then 14 DVB cards)
Thanks
So what does this part mean then,
"The approach could let Sky get around a copyright restriction that TVNZ
believes would prevent the pay-TV company from loading the new channels
into its electronic programming guide without TVNZ's permission."
Don't we get tvnz info off the sky epg already?

Their STBs use more than just the DVB EIT data to work.

Hence their requirement for a firmware upgrade?
Or all of this might just be some posturing by Sky.
I presume to be
treated as a "freeview" box (and legally have the rights to do it) the user
has to have the ability to choose any freq/symbol rate etc which is just as
they say a "software upgrade" instead of the locked in channels at the
moment.
Hello
I have been using the following script to get epg data for my mythtv box for months and it now appears to be broken.
Hey all,
Just letting you know that I added the new Sky channel to the listings-sky
feed the other day. It was in the channels.conf already but was showing up as
MySky preview since they must have reused that PID.
There are now active PIDs, and associated EPG data for these two channels..
TVNZ6 is on 12483H on SID 1904 as expected
Stratos is on 12456H on SID 1922
Also watch out as there is a chance Parliament TV will appear on 12456H on
SID 1923. Appeared yesterday and then dropped off.
Hello,
I’ve just built my first proper media centre. =
I’ve
installed MythTV on Ubuntu feisty. It’s been a fascinating =
project;
probably easier than I expected. I’ve been playing with Linux for =
several
years and finally plucked up the courage to do the job properly by =
buying some
decent gear while I’ve been on holiday at home.
Hardware: Asus M2NPV-VM Motherboard; CPU AMD Athlon =
64 X2
6000+ CPU, 3.0GHz; 2Gb RAM, 80Gb SATA drive; Case: Silverstone SST-LC13 =
ATX
Home Theatre Case. (Hard drive is a bit small already, but it was a =
spare I had
lying around.) Tuner is a Hauppauge PVR 150.
Most things are working… I’ve had a few =
dramas,
but the solution each time has been annoyingly simple, even when it took
several days to find. (Isn’t that always the way?). I might need =
some
help with the IR receiver and remote that came with the PVR Card. And if =
there
is a good EPG somewhere, I’d love to get it (even if it meant =
forking out
some money?)
About me: 46 y/o, company exec, long-time interest =
in PC’s
(started Word processing & spread sheeting on a Commodore 64 some =
time in
the early 80’s and sent my first email in 1992) but fundamentally =
still a
noob in the Linux world.
Any other members around Rangiora or =
Christchurch?
Cheers

I have set up a second capture card and
told it that the default input is 'composite' and mapped that to a source
and an input connection. It scans for and finds channels but I get no
pictures.
